Install and operate wantasticd

Connect Linux and OpenWrt endpoints with the open-source userspace agent.

Outcome

A Linux or OpenWrt endpoint enrolled with its own token and shown online.

Before you start

  • A supported Linux/OpenWrt endpoint
  • Shell access
  • A fresh enrollment token

Run the installer

  1. 1Inspect the installer and environment for production use.
  2. 2Replace the placeholder with the new device token.
  3. 3Run it on the intended endpoint only.
  4. 4Remove the token from shell history and tickets.
Token install · sh
curl -sSL https://get.wantastic.app/install.sh | sh -s -- [your-token]
Operational note: Production provisioning should use a unique device enrollment token.

Understand the command surface

  • login authenticates and configures the client.
  • connect starts from a configuration file.
  • update installs a newer supported build.
  • ping, curl, ssh and telnet use the userspace path.
  • bind creates a controlled local-to-remote binding.
  • neighbors and version inspect peer/build state.

Operate safely

  1. 1Confirm supervision and restart after reboot.
  2. 2Use one identity per endpoint.
  3. 3Keep tokens and keys out of logs.
  4. 4Update through the supported path.
  5. 5Remove decommissioned devices from the console.
Operational note: wantasticd is not the native RouterOS path for MikroTik.

Verify the result

wantasticd reports its version.
Service runs after reboot.
Endpoint is Online with a unique identity.
A supported remote workflow reaches the intended peer.

Common issues

Installer completes but device is offline.
Likely cause

Wrong token, stopped service, time/DNS error or blocked outbound traffic.

Fix

Check logs, time and DNS, create a fresh token for this device and retry once.

A command works locally but not through wantasticd.
Likely cause

Userspace reachability/policy differs from host routes.

Fix

Check assigned peer address and policy; host routes are not automatically exposed.
